The INNERview Ep159 Vadim Repin
Interview
As one of the three child music prodigies of his
day in Russia, Vadim Repin has long been celebrated in the classical music
community. He picked up the violin at the age of 5, and gave his very first
stage performance just 6 months later. After turning 11, he drew considerable
attention as the winner of a gold medal at the International Henryk Wieniawski
Violin Competition, and at the age of 14, he debuted around the world including
Tokyo, Munich, Berlin and Helsinki. It was only a year later that he was given
a chance to perform at Carnegie Hall, and he even set a new record as the
youngest violinist to win the Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition
at the age of 17. Ever since then, the award-winning musician has been
collaborating with prestigious symphony orchestras around the world.
During the interview, he described what it has been like to work with some of
the finest musicians and conductors in the world. He expressed his admiration
for the Sejong Soloists, who have been acclaimed as the world′s best ensemble
by CNN, and shared about what it was like to perform with them for the second
time during this visit. He then went on to describe his relationship with the
world-class musician and conductor Chung Myung-whun, and what it was like to
study under the tutelage of Zakhar Bron, one of the world′s greatest violin
pedagogue.
The veteran musician, who has been gracing some of the world′s most prestigious
concert halls, admitted that he feels a wave of anxiety before every
performance, even now. This is probably because he constantly pushes himself to
give the most brilliant and inspirational performance of his lifetime every
time he takes the stage. Meet Vadim Repin, a celebrated violin virtuoso who is
known for his brilliant technique, on The INNERview to hear his story!
